The following contains some early information about the various events at this year’s HISTORICON. Some
are returning events, while some are special events that will make their first appearance at this year's convention!

The listing of general games events for the Preliminary Events List (PEL) – which is a list of all the
games available for pre-reg – will not be available until on/about May 14th. The list will have hundreds
of games to enjoy at this year’s convention. [GMs Note: The PEL deadline for the primary GM to
register their event/game and receive free admission is April 16, 2010; Program deadline May 31, 2010; Event
Registration closes June 21, 2010.]
After sixty years in the hobby the internationally acclaimed wargames master Duke Seifried is retiring
from presenting his magnificent series of spectacular games and is planning to stage a last huzzah with
an extravaganza of games – End of an Era. A recent meeting with his doctors has allowed
Duke to make a last massive show before, as he puts it, “I ride off into the sunset.”
‘Uncle Duke’s Diamond Jubilee’ will be a major feature of this year’s show, with
a special area dedicated to this attraction. Fourteen of Duke’s elaborate games are being offered
for attendee’s to play in one last time. The 25mm games spanning various periods of history being
featured will be as follows:
- Egyptians/Hittites, Assyrians/Babylonians, Carthaginians/Republican Romans and Imperial Romans/Barbarians will represent the Ancient World.
- Normans/Saxons and Vikings/Saxons for the Dark Ages and a Siege game of the Middle Ages.
- The Renaissance is depicted with Aztecs & Conquistadors battling it out in AZTECA!
- There will be French/Indian War and AWI for 18th-century America.
- Uncle Duke’s Napoleonettes will service Austrians/French 1809 (only 15mm game).
- Representing the Colonial Wars will be Dervishes/British & Egyptians in the Sudan, Zulu/British at Isandlwana & Rorke's Drift, and Pathans & Afghans/British & Sepoys on the Northwest Frontier.
- Plus a reduced scale ‘Jolly Roger’ game with ships and islands/pirates for the convention theme of “Pike and Shotte”.
All these armies and terrain will be for sale as well, as the final curtain comes down of this End of an Era.

The 2010 Flames of War National Tournament has returned to HISTORICON!! We are proud to announce that
Battlefront Miniatures will be hosting their 1500-pt Late War National Tournament at HISTORICON 2010.
The Valley Forge Convention Center will provide ample enough space to accommodate almost 200 qualified
players for the National Tournament. If you are qualified for the National Tournament and would like more

For those rabid fans who crave Flames of War, Battlefront Miniatures are currently coordinating with
lots of clubs and fans to host a plethora of themed games during the evening hours. They will also host
intro games for those wargamers who are interested in learning more about Flames of War and there may
even be a few surprises along the way. Be sure to check out the Flames of War website and the HISTORICON

HISTORICON is pleased to welcome Captain Dale Dye, USMC (Ret) as a Special Guest of Honor. Captain Dye
served twenty years in the Corps including combat tours in Vietnam and Beirut. He is a former enlisted Marine
who rose to the rank of Master Sergeant before he was commissioned. After retirement in 1984, he founded
Warriors Inc., the premier military consultancy to film and TV production. He is also an accomplished writer,
director and actor. His show business resume includes more than fifty productions, many of which have won top

Captain Dye is scheduled to appear on Saturday, July 10th, where he will be available for ‘Meet &
Greet’ at the
Osprey Publishing
booth, and will host the following two seminars – Hollywood and Military History: Can’t
they ever get it right? (Sat. 11 AM), and The Making of a Military Miniseries: Band of Brothers

Since HISTORICON is the biggest convention with the largest attendance, there's no better place for this
convention highlight, a proper series of seminars on topics ranging from military and naval history to
theme related and miniature wargaming in general. This year, due to the new convention venue, the War
College has been expanded to have four rooms of seminars over four days – Wow! For a full list of

HMGS East is very pleased to again welcome Weider History Group (WHG) –

Osprey Publishing
returns to HISTORICON in 2009 with some great new titles on display from Spartacus and the Slave War
to American Civil War Railroad Tactics. Plus, there will be ‘Meet & Greets’ of well
known Osprey artist Peter Dennis and authors Rene Chartrand, Angus Konstam, plus artist David Rickman,
and others (such as Special Guest of Honor, Captain Dale Dye). While final details are still
being arranged there are plenty of new initiatives from this popular publishing company to keep you

Casemate,
the leading military publisher and distributor returns to HISTORICON with news of new releases,
as well as their 40-odd publishers! This year they will have a large booth for sales, plus sneak
previews, exclusive info on forthcoming developments in the military publishing world, exciting
competitions, book signings and author seminars. More information can be found at the following link for

The Hobby University will feature a full schedule of Painting and Hobby classes. All will be located on
the lower level of the convention center. Registration is onsite at the Painting Area.

HMGS is proud to present the 4th Annual Iron Paintbrush Competition at HISTORICON. The concept is simple.
Teams of 3 contestants race to win The Iron Paintbrush. They are given a limited selection of
supplies; figures, bits, paint, basing materials, etc. – and they must compete to create the most
eye-catching figure mini-diorama within 1.5 hours. It’s like speed painting on steroids! Judges
look for flair, best use of supplies, and overall esthetics of piece and painting technique. Do you have
what it takes to be THE Iron Paintbrush! Can you take the Pressure!
Teams need to pre-register at the Hobby University area (see onsite program). The contest is limited to

All HISTORICON attendees are welcome to attend the Friday 7 PM (1 hr) to recognize our hobby’s finest
achievements. Awards presented will include the Second Annual HISTORICON Awards, Game Master of the Year Award,
and HMGS Legion of Honor Award. Entry to the Awards Presentation is Free to all. Attendees may also
optionally order dinner from the adjacent restaurant, or drinks from the bar (Note: Dinner/drinks must be
purchased separately; not provided free). The awards will be as follows.
HMGS will recognize our Historical Gaming Industry for excellence and prominence in historical gaming
products; awards will include the Historical Miniatures Figure Line of the Year, and the Historical
Miniatures Game Rules and Rules Expansion of the Year. HISTORICON attendees will vote for the nominees,
and winners announced at the Awards Presentations. Also, HMGS will induct Matt de la Mater and Buck Surdu
into the HMGS Legion of Honor for significant personal accomplishment. HMGS will also recognize one gamemaster
with the 2009-10 Game Master of the Year Award.
