GAME MASTER AWARDS – HISTORICON 2009
From the HMGS East www.HMGS.org Awards Committee

The Historical Miniatures Gaming Society, Eastern Chapter congratulates the Game Masters (GM) awardees selected by their peer GM’s for HISTORICON 2009. The HMGS East Game Master Awards program is intended to recognize GMs for convention events, which encourage others and exemplify the highest qualities of the Historical Miniatures Gaming hobby. Thanks to ALL of our dedicated GMs for their personal contribution and selfless efforts at HISTORICON 2009. In addition, is the Osprey Award (judged by Osprey Publishing) for the Best Osprey Campaign Game; see item ‘8’ below.

1. Best of Show: “Battle of Bunker Hill, 17 June 1775” by Richard Clayden and The Boston Trained Bands (28mm AWI).

2. Best “Napoleonic 1809 Austrian Campaign and Spanish Ulcer” Theme Event: “Battle of Eggmuhl, 22 Apr 1809” by Roger Downie and The Kofkreigsrat Team (25mm Theme).

3. ‘Pour Encourager Les Autres’ (PELA) Awards: Selected from all historical miniatures events throughout the Convention.

  • “Pursuit of the Goeben” by Dave Emdee (1:1200 Early 20th Century) [Note: This Sunday event has the distinction of being run for 20 consecutive years at HISTORICON.]

5. HMGS Legion of Honor Battle Stars: A “Recognition Award” selected for achievement by members of the HMGS Legion of Honor. [None were awarded this convention.]

6. GM Award Judging Teams: Are veteran GM’s led by previous award winners, all of whom devote their personal convention time as volunteers. We apologize for any inaccurate data or oversights and strongly encourage all GMs to volunteer and support the program. Club groups and award winners are especially welcome as judging teams. 8. Osprey Award – Best Campaign Competition: This was the fourth year for this competition, for the “Osprey Award for the best use of a Campaign book in designing a game at HISTORICON”, and was judged soley by Osprey Publishing (not by HMGS East GMs). According to Richard Sullivan, Marketing Director of Osprey Publishing who attended – “There were some great games going”, and with a total of 32 entries this year, “the one that won despite some stiff competition, was ‘Battle of Bunker Hill, 17 June 1775’, by gamemasters Marvin and Jamie Veeder [for which they used the Campaign title Boston 1775]…a great looking game being run with tremendous enthusiasm and flair”.
