Real Wargame Terrain and Wargame pieces in a Real Modeling Contest!

The Society of Daisy is hosting this new Modeling Contest, but it’s a unique one. We want wargame terrain and wargame models right "Off the Table" – not presentation pieces, not something kept under glass – not dioramas! It doesn’t matter if it might have a ding or a dent in it from hard use; those are just honorable scars.

The key here is "presence". Does it have presence on the tabletop? Is it that Alpine bluff, or a Georgia Railroad Station just waiting for Sherman’s Bummers to come along, or a Spanish galleon you made out of an old hunk of 2x4? If it looks neat and attractive, it’s what we are looking for. Special consideration is given for ingenuity in what the high-brow might call "Found Art", that is art just composed almost by chance, but which we might term "junk."

The Society is offering a certificate of recognition to all entrants, with a $25 cash prize and plaque to the winner.

Rules are simple:

  • You can only submit items you made; entrants limited to the first 20 people.
  • You may not enter figures or units; see the Painting Contest elsewhere for that
  • Entry must be less than 24” x 24” in footprint (base size)
  • To enter, you must bring it to Table D-11 in the Dystelfink Ballroom and fill out the registration form between 8-10 AM Saturday, July 26th (judging will be 11 AM to Noon)
  • You do not have to be present to win the prize; we will send it to you
  • You must pick entries by 1 PM (else it’s ours and we will sell it at the Flea Market!)

Someone will be on hand at all times to watch the entries and we will exercise all reasonable care against loss or damage, but again neither HMGS East, HISTORICON, the Society, nor its members assumes any responsibility for loss or damage to the pieces.

If you have a question if your model is suitable, contact the Society at sigurd@eclipse.net or via our Yahoo group at SOCDAISY-subscribe@yahoogroups.com
